On the far end of this spectrum, researchers have begun to develop “AI scientists,” end-to-end pipelines that aim to execute the whole scientific workflow by chaining together literature search, idea generation, code writing, experiment execution, and paper drafting. If these systems are successful, they might be able to work much faster than human scientists, and thereby may constitute the majority of scientific work that gets done.
