I'm currently observing my university's annual capture the flag competition, and the situation is rather bleak. This event was once a space for creative expression for me and a valuable learning experience for participants. Presently, it is dominated by the unquestioning application of generative AI. Those creating the puzzles are now focused on making them resistant to these tools, which unfortunately renders them nearly impossible for beginners. Consequently, the event is diminishing both as an instructive exercise and a source of fun. From my perspective as a creator, what incentive remains to invest originality, knowing the output will merely be processed automatically rather than appreciated by a person?
